“Easy Lessons, or Self-instruction in Irish” (1865)

Description: The fourth edition (first edition – 1859) of one of the first ever Irish textbooks for self-study. Great for the modern English-speaking reader as well. The modern Irish language is quite different from the one presented in the book, especially in terms of spelling, so the textbook can be recommended to those who are interested in the history of the Irish language. Author doesn’t indicate which particular dialect is used as the basis for the textbook, but, judging by the presented phonetic system, it is one of the northern ones (Conamara or Dun-na-n-Gall).

Publisher: John Mullany, Dublin

Year of edition: 1865
